The Link

Milpha brings over ten years of experience in all aspects of nonprofit management including accounting and finance, human resources, governance, fundraising and development, marketing, program evaluation and tax and legal compliance. In her current role as Human Resources Director at The Link, Milpha plans, directs, and manages all human resources initiatives including: recruitment, compensation analysis, benefits planning and reporting, training and all employee relations of the organization.   The Link works with youth and families to overcome the impacts of poverty and social injustice.  The Link operates 19 programs across the Twin Cities area, employs over 150 adult and youth staff members and supports nearly 3,000 youth and young families each year. The Link offers housing and supportive services for youth and young families experiencing homelessness; positive alternative programs for youth in the juvenile justice system; and emergency shelter, housing and supportive services for youth who have been sexually trafficked and/or exploited.

Milpha’s previous work in nonprofit management includes her role as the Interim Director of Finance and Operations for Bright Water Montessori Schools, and prior to this position, she served in several other executive leadership roles, including Director of Finance and Development and Business Manager with Partnership Academy Charter School.  Milpha has also served on a number of community and faith based committees and nonprofit boards, and is currently the Immidiate Past President and Co-founder of The Leadership Club Toastmasters in Brooklyn Park where she helps build the capacity of local residents in communication and leadership development. Milpha holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Minnesota , a Mini-MBA for Nonprofits from the University of St. Thomas Opus School of Business and is near completion of a Masters of Nonprofit Management from Hamline University,

According to Milpha, “I am familiar with and have navigated through many of the challenges nonprofits face including limited staffing, tight budget constraints and the need for diversity, equity and inclusion of all people within executive leadership and governance boards. Having also served on several nonprofit boards, I am familiar with the fudiciary, strategic and generative role of the board in realizing the mission of a nonprofit.

As a member of the MCN board I will strive to be a voice for all people.  As a native of Liberia that was raised in the United States, my work and life experiences provide me a personal understanding of the underrepresented populations including immigrants, women and people of color.  In collaboration with fellow board members, I will advocate for all nonprofits.

My work experience and insights are strengths I believe will bring added value to the MCM board. I am very excited about this opportunity and look forward to serving as a voice and advocating for and on behalf of the nonprofit sector!”
